Line Drawings traces a recurring visual theme across multiple images of space exploration. The video essay joins together materials from European Space Agency media—dating from the 1980s to today—with a database of science fiction films partly or wholly set on the Moon. As the work unfolds, a series of lines reach for, encircle, enclose, divide, and tether the Moon in multiplying gestures of lunar relation. Amid the current global race to return to Earth’s natural satellite, it aims to amplify a tension found along the fine lines separating exploration from exploitation.
